Happy International dance Day!

Yeah, there’s a day to commemorate your favourite boogie moves.

We have the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute to thank for creating this groove-alous day, to remind us of the value and importance of performance dance as an artform.

So, this April 29^th I thought I’d share with you a pretty cool YouTube . This video takes us through a journey of how music has shaped out movement and the amazing ways dance has evolved; neatly packaged into a very well organised 5-minute piece of entertainment, courtesy of the infamous Ricardo Walker's Crew of dancers.

Of all the incredible ways our bodies have salsa’d, moonwalked and “macarena’d” my favourite and most memorable dance magic televised will always be the performance by Aunt Viv in Fresh Price of Bel Air.

Overcoming her fears and age perceptions by her fellow dancers, Aunt Viv sashayed into an unrehearsed choreography. Surprised to have been chosen after being shown the dance only once, she effortlessly and energetically performed the routine with such demand and sass that even me sitting in front of the sofa leapt up with applause.

I’ll never forget that moment. It taught me so much. First, never underestimate yourself or others, and two it’s never too late to go after your dreams and prove to yourself that you can do anything!
