Unintended uses for hangers
Happy May Day!
In continuation of the series of hangers’ blogs, I’ve had fun writing this next segment – the uses of hangers. In this blog we dive through the utterly creative to the dumbfounding ways we have used the hanger over the years. Strap yourselves in, this is going to be fun!
Perhaps because of its easily bendable structure, hangers have been a widely available piece of steel that many creative minds have sort after to craft beautiful and interesting figures from, like this one I found on Pinterest. Aww so cute.
Check out this. I don’t know about you but there’s been a few times where I’ve been caught out by last minute reminders of World book day or some other school dress up event for my kids. Well, there’s loads of YouTube videos demonstrating how to make a fair wing made from coat hanger. There are catalogues of amazing people showing off their talents and teaching us how to make clever and cute costumes with the simple household hanger. Neat, huh?
Here are some really weird and funny gifs that made me chuckle:
I used to love this show when I was a kid. |
And who could forget the hanger on the head challenge. Last year everyone on the internet went nuts to see how the scientific experiment would work on them. Haven’t seen it? Oh well, you’re in luck.
This is how interesting humans can get. There was a scientific report that concluded that if you (yes you) stretch a hanger over your head, your head would automatically turn around in a clockwise angle. Don’t believe me? Try it out and let me know how you get on. If you don’t fancy ruining one of your beautiful DECASSA hangers, here’s a video of some of our finest human specimens having a go.
It’s called the ‘hanger reflex’ and to be fair to them, there is some actual scientific research behind this strange involuntary reaction.
Next, who could forget the historic scene from one of the most powerful and haunting movie performances from Faye Dunaway. Though many find this scene hilarious, it still haunts me to watch it. What a powerful and underrated performance of its time. This gif is a snapshot from that scene, you’ve probably seen a dozen times and not realised where it came from. This performance was so memorable, it is still gets referenced in movies, comedy stand up and general conversations.
The wonderful thing about history is that we get to learn from it. Move forward and aim for a better existence.
This goes to show just how amazingly versatile the hanger is.
Whatever you do with your hangers, let it be with love.
XOXO
I’d love to see what you guys have created with your spare wire hangers.
